In the transition to a net-zero-carbon economy, we focus a lot on new technologies. However, there’s one truism that also matters: less is…less. Better, integrated solutions combine renewable energy generation with battery storage and building/load controls to produce and consume electricity more intelligently, efficiently or not at all.

Renewables are changing the architecture of delivery of electric power away from big, complex, centralized power plants that require skilled human operation to small, distributed ones that run seamlessly on their own. That changes the fundamental question of who owns the assets, the rights to dispatch them, and who benefits from those economics.
